Walking In Andalucia- First Impressions

By Thomas
Our Resident Dog Reporter

It was our first day in Alhama de Granada, and I was still in a blur of absolute confusion. I had just travelled for 20 hours and had no idea where I was.

I tried to get some much needed sleep the night before, but it wasn't easy (you see my doggie friends, something out-of-this world happens when you travel cross atlantic--night becomes day, day becomes night and your doggie clock WILL go hayhire!

So anyway, it was early morning and J. The 2nd was up rather early as well. And you wouldn't have guessed the first thing he said.

Sleepy Thomas"Come on Thomas, you wanna go for a walk?!"

"A walk??? A walk???"

Can you believe that? A walk early in the morning!

"No work to go to today, J.?" I asked

And he just replied,

"Come on Thomas, you ready?"

He was really serious!

Well, well, come to think of it. Life really does surprise you when you least expect it.

Just when you're not sure if your life will ever be the same again, something warm, fuzzy and familar happens---a walk..just what I needed..

"Hmmm...life isn't so bad after all" I thought.

Whoa!!!!

Was all I could say during my first walk in Andalucia.

And if you're used to city life, you would feel exactly the same way.

Confusion....confusion...more confusion....

Walking In Andalucia

The smell was starkly different the moment we stepped out of the apartment.

Now you have to know that 2 years of "FindThe Cheese" job (which has been imposed on me, by the way) has vastly heightened my sense of smell.

And that rush of varying scents which was so different to the concrete jungle I was used to was pretty overwhelming.

Then I looked out to where we were going for a walk and you would not believe what I saw!

Up ahead was a road (a track, J. The 2nd says), that went as far as my eyes could see (which is very very far...).

There were also hills, mountains and trees of the like I had never seen before.

It was pretty scary, and I'm embarassed to say a tail-between-the-legs moment.

I looked at J. The 2nd for a little bit of compassion, but he had this happy, very satisfied grin on his face. He actually looked like he was enjoying this change of scenery! (He's a bit strange like that).

And surprisingly enough, his enthusiasm got in to me and before I knew it, I was already tugging J. to hurry.

I was back to being me!!!

Ladida dida dida....

It was only a short 20 minute walk in the Andalucian countryside, but I loved what I saw.

Rufff....GRRrrrrr....Ruff...GRRrrrrr,

Thomas In Alhama
