Nerja Spain - My First Beach Sighting

By Thomas
Our Resident Dog Reporter

I didn't know what a beach was until we went to Nerja

And I Loooved it!

I didn't know what to expect but the moment we went to Burriana Beach and smelled the fresh sea breeze of Nerja , I was super dogstatic when I .

So that's what the beach does to a dog!!!

I've heard stories about it before but never believed there was such a place.

I felt the sand on my paws as I dug up the beach. I smelt the salty air...I run around and round in circles.

It was a marvelous day.

The Trip To Nerja

The trip from Alhama De Granada to Nerja was a short one. R drove us there on his rented car to show us the Andalucia coast.

But holly molly cats and whiskers! It was one hell of a ride.

To NerjaThey were supposed to be training me to stay in the back part of the car and not in the front or the back seat.

Yes! The back part meaning that place just behind the back seat where I'm supposed to lie down during the whole journey.

We were going to Nerja! We were going past national parks and beautiful white villages.

And they expected me to lie down the whole way??? I don't dig humans at all.

So I didn't lie down. I stood up looking through the window the whole time.

Well, almost the whole time.

The road to Nerja from Alhama was not exactly built by the Romans, you see. It was so full of sharp twists and turns that I slid from one side of the car to the other every five minutes.

R tried to be very careful during the turns, but my paws are not exactly made of glue, are they?

Helllooooo!!! Can the pregnant lady (that's S) please go to the back seat so I can take the front?

Nerja's Burriana Beach

For my first beach sighting, Burriana Beach was pretty good. We went down a stairway and ended up in a wide open space with nothing but sand and the deep blue sea.

Now that sea didn't look any different to Lake Bermejales near Alhama De Granada--it's just a lot of water which I wasn't really keen on jumping into.

But the beach...aaah...the beach and the sand.

Now that's money baby.

It's one big playground every dog should have in his garden.

There weren't a lot of people when we arrived so it was a great time to fool around.

After a few minutes of this, the 4 humans: A2, J2, R & S wanted to see the busier part of the beach. So I unwillingly plodded along with them.

We went to the strip where the restaurants are. And you can't believe the number of people who speak in exactly the same way as J2, my English roommate.

They were everywhere! From little kids to old people to young couples, they all sounded exactly like J2!!! To think I've lived all my life thinking that he was special!!!

Surprisingly enough, it was in Nerja where I saw the things I was told Spain was all about before I came here.

There I saw a flamenco dancer and had my first paella right out of the fire (well, ok not right out of the fire but I saw a guy who did)

The flamenco dancer was of no interest to me at all or to J2, R & S who all thought it was just some tourist show. But A2 stayed behind to watch a little bit and got a good picture of it as well.

Rufff....GRRrrrrr....Ruff...GRRrrrrr,
