Our Resident Dog Reporter
According to a newspaper article that A2 read, Lake
Bermejales which is about a 20 minute ride from Alhama De Granada
is Andalucia’s well-kept lake secrets.
So really, I shouldn’t be writing about it here, because
I prefer it to be that--Spain's travel secret!
But dogs are not exactly known for keeping our mouths shut (definitely
not me!), so what the heck! (if someone tells me off for spilling
out this little secret, I can always blame it on the cat!)
The first time we went to Lake Bermejales was on a beautiful
summer evening in Andalucia. It was nearing 7:00 p.m. but the
sun was out.
It was just perfect!
It was all perfect until J2 came up with a stupid idea: the
lets-get-thomas-in-the-water game.
Not fun...Not fun at all.
What People Do In Andalucia's Lake Bermejales
A good portion, for reasons beyond me, spend their time swimming.
I don’t enjoy such senseless activity so I do what I love
the most—I run from one part of the lake to the other,
feeling the breeze, looking for bones that “wasteful”
humans may have left behind.
Lake Bermejales is also Alhama De Granada’s little playground.
It’s a place where people go:
-
camping
-
horse-back riding
-
canoeing
-
sailing
-
fishing
-
cycling
Despite
all these available activities and majestic scenery, not many
people go there which is good for us!
Even during the peak of the tourist season when we first went
there, there were at about 50-100 people in this vast expanse
of land. It was so easy to find our own little corner away from
all the hubbub that 50 people make…Not a bad place for
a sea-substitute at all.
How To Get To The Lake From Alhama De Granada
I’d like to walk to Lake Bermejales from Alhama one of
these days, but I don’t think A2 & J2 are fit enough
to do that just yet, so I’m not pushing the idea.
But anyway, going there by car is pretty easy. Just follow
the road from Alhama that goes to Granada. About 3-5 minutes
from the roman bridge, you’ll see a signpost on the right
that says Lake Bermejales.
Just follow this road and it’s pretty much easy wheeling
from there! There’s absolutely no way you’ll miss
Andalucia's most beautiful lake (unless you’ve been taught
to drive by a monkey)
